Schwielochsee (lake)

Schwielochsee is a lake in Brandenburg, Germany, occupying a lowland setting in the state’s southeast and formed as part of the region’s post-glacial landscape.

The lake system comprises two linked basins, with shoreline villages, reed-fringed shallows and facilities for boating, angling and lakeside recreation. Leisure activities concentrate on the larger southern basin while quieter natural areas occur around the smaller northern basin.

The lake basin was shaped by glacial and post-glacial processes; local settlements have historically used the lake for fishing and transport, and recreational uses expanded in the 20th century.

Situated in the Brandenburg region of eastern Germany, the lake lies within a rural landscape of lakes, forests and small towns southeast of Berlin and is accessed via regional roads.
