Schwerin Castle is a historic palace located on an island in Lake Schwerin in the city of Schwerin, capital of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in northern Germany. The present appearance is largely a 19th-century historicist reconstruction built around earlier medieval foundations.

The ornate palace complex includes towers, façades and richly decorated state rooms viewed from both land and water; the island setting provides panoramic views across Lake Schwerin. Visitors commonly combine interior guided tours with walks around the lakeside grounds.

The site has medieval origins as a fortified residence and underwent major rebuilding and stylistic transformation in the 19th century when it was remodelled into a romantic palace. In more recent decades the castle has served public functions and now houses the state parliament and museum spaces.

Schwerin Castle is in central Schwerin. Take regional trains to Schwerin Hauptbahnhof (there are regular services from Hamburg and other regional centres); from Schwerin Hbf it is a short walk into the city centre - roughly 1.5-2 km (about 20-30 minutes) to the castle island, or a brief local bus/taxi ride. By road Schwerin is roughly 100-120 km north of Hamburg (via the A24/Güstrow-Hamburg corridors) and about 200-220 km northwest of Berlin.

• Arrive early on a weekday and buy tickets in advance or at the ticket office to avoid the busiest visitor windows; early morning light also photographs the castle and moat best.
• Approach via the Schlossinsel/Schlossgarten side and follow signs to the main visitor entrance-this route gives the classic island-and-water perspective before you enter the courtyards.
• Don't skip the lakeside boat views and the State Museum collections inside the castle; many visitors focus only on exterior photos and miss the interior representative rooms and the adjacent gardens.
