Scepsis is an ancient Greek city of the Troad region, located in what is now Çanakkale Province in northwestern Turkey. It is known in classical literature for its association with the preservation of Aristotle’s and Theophrastus’s writings.
The site includes archaeological remains of an ancient city and was occupied through classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods; its most famous historical episode concerns Neleus of Scepsis, who is reported to have taken the Peripatetic library to the town for safekeeping.
