Scarborough Castle

Scarborough Castle is a coastal medieval fortress in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England, occupying a rocky headland above the town and harbour and visible across the seafront.

The castle dates to the medieval period when coastal strongholds were constructed to control ports and maritime approaches; it saw military use and alteration across successive centuries and retains structural elements from different historical phases. In later centuries the site fell into ruin and is now conserved as a heritage site.

The castle sits on a prominent headland at Scarborough on England’s North Sea coast, immediately above the town’s harbour and within walking distance of the seafront and central Scarborough.
