Saysutshun (Newcastle Island Marine) Park

Saysutshun (Newcastle Island Marine) Provincial Park is a marine provincial park on Newcastle Island immediately offshore from Nanaimo, British Columbia. The island park protects mixed forest, shoreline, historic sites and recreational facilities close to the city.

Visitors can follow a network of maintained trails, relax on small beaches, picnic in designated areas and explore remnants of past quarrying and settlement activity. The park offers day-use facilities and a seasonal campground; boats and a passenger ferry provide the usual access.

Newcastle Island has indigenous history and later saw industrial use for sandstone quarrying and small-scale settlement; following the decline of quarrying it transitioned to recreational use and was designated as a marine park to protect its natural and cultural resources.

The island lies in Nanaimo Harbour off the east coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, a short water crossing from downtown Nanaimo.
