Savary Island, off British Columbia, is a largely car‑free summer community with wide sandy beaches and tidal flats; visitors kayak, beachwalk, watch seals and stay in seasonal cottages.
Savary Island is a small island in the northern Strait of Georgia off the coast of British Columbia, Canada, within the qathet/Powell River area. It is primarily a seasonal community with many private cottages and recreational visitors.
The island is notable for long white sand beaches and shallow, warm swimming waters that extend around much of the shoreline. There are walking trails through coastal forest and dune areas, and small seasonal services during summer months.
Permanent settlement on the island has historically been light and seasonal; development increased in the 20th century as the island became a summer-cottage destination. Land use remains largely residential and recreational.
Sits off the northern Sunshine Coast of British Columbia near the town of Powell River and the community of Lund, accessible only by private boat or water taxi. The surrounding landscape is coastal temperate forest and marine channels.
