Cape Southern Kyushu cape with rugged coastal scenery

Sata-misaki (Cape Sata) is a rocky headland at the southern tip of Kyushu in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, noted as the southernmost point of mainland Kyushu.
The cape offers coastal cliffs, sea vistas and a marked viewpoint where visitors can see open ocean and nearby islets. A small lighthouse and a short network of paths and viewing platforms provide several vantage points for photography and whale- or boat-watching when conditions allow.
The cape has long served as a coastal landmark for navigation around the Ōsumi Peninsula; the lighthouse and basic visitor facilities were established to support maritime safety and tourism. The surrounding area has been developed modestly for visitors while retaining its natural coastal character.
Situated on the southern tip of the Ōsumi Peninsula, the cape is administered within Kagoshima Prefecture (Minamiōsumi area). It lies on Japan’s southern Kyushu coastline and is reached by road from towns on the peninsula and from the wider Kagoshima region.
- Access and viewpoint: A paved road reaches close to the cape and there is an observation area with signposting marking the southern tip of Kyushu.
