Sarkand is best reached by road from regional hubs such as Almaty or Taldykorgan. International travellers fly into Almaty (ALA) and continue overland by bus, marshrutka or private car to reach Sarkand.
Almaty International Airport (ALA): The main international airport serving southeastern Kazakhstan. From Almaty you can travel overland to Sarkand by intercity bus, marshrutka or private car; the trip crosses regional roads and can take several hours.
Taldykorgan Airport (none/IATA limited): Taldykorgan is the regional administrative centre with closer road links to Jetisu/Almaty Region towns; commercial flight options are limited, so most travellers use Almaty and continue by road.
Train: Kazakhstan’s rail network connects major cities; however, smaller towns like Sarkand are usually reached by road rather than direct passenger rail. The nearest larger rail stations are in Taldykorgan and Almaty.
Bus / Marshrutka: Intercity buses and marshrutkas (minibuses) run from Taldykorgan and Almaty toward smaller towns in Jetisu Region. Marshrutkas are frequent, affordable and practical for regional travel; schedules are often informal so check local timetables.
