Sark is a small Channel Island in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, in the English Channel, known for its low-density settlement and largely car-free environment. The island comprises several linked peninsulas and is notable for steep sea cliffs and rural landscapes.

Key local features include a narrow rocky ridge that connects Great Sark to Little Sark and a network of footpaths and narrow lanes used for walking and cycling. The island retains a feudal historic administration until late 20th-century reforms and has a compact inhabited area with farmland and coastal cliffs.

Historically governed under a seigneurial system, Sark developed as a small rural community with maritime links to nearby Guernsey. Modern governance and services have evolved while the island retains much of its traditional character.

Ferries run from Guernsey (St Peter Port) to Sark’s harbours (e.g., Havre Gosselin) with crossings typically around 50 minutes; schedules vary by season and weather. Private boats also call, but larger passenger services are the usual route.

• Sark has no cars (motor vehicles are heavily restricted); expect to walk, cycle, or hire a horse-drawn carriage for luggage transfers.
