Santuari de Lluc

Santuari de Lluc is a Marian monastery and pilgrimage sanctuary in the Tramuntana mountains of Mallorca, established as a religious site in the medieval period. It is one of the island’s principal pilgrimage centres and a focal point for mountain walks in the region.

The complex includes a basilica that houses the venerated image of the Virgin of Lluc, a cloister, museum displays and pilgrim accommodation. The site is also known for its long-standing boys’ choir, the Escolania de Lluc, and for providing access to marked mountain trails that range from short walks to multi-hour hikes.

The sanctuary was established in the medieval era and developed over later centuries as a religious community and pilgrimage destination. Buildings and facilities were expanded and repaired at various times to serve both worshippers and visitors.

The Santuari sits inland in the municipality of Escorca in northwest Mallorca, in the central spine of the Serra de Tramuntana. It is reached by mountain roads from coastal towns and is commonly visited on day trips from Palma de Mallorca.

• Gardens and trailheads: Gardens, terraces and the surrounding pine-clad valleys form the starting point for multiple walking routes into the Serra de Tramuntana, including marked mountain trails that lead to nearby summits and viewpoints.
