Sant’Andrea al Quirinale is a 17th-century Baroque church on the Quirinal Hill in Rome. It was designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and completed in the 1660s for the Jesuit order.
The church is compact and built on an oval plan with a domed ceiling and a sculptural high altar, notable for its dynamic interior and use of richly modelled stucco. Visitors come to study Bernini’s spatial design, the dramatic lighting and the refined Baroque ornamentation.
Commissioned by Cardinal Camillo Francesco Maria Pamphilj, construction began in 1658 and progressed through the 1660s under Bernini’s supervision. The building has remained a parish and devotional site and is considered one of Bernini’s principal ecclesiastical works.
Located on the Quirinal Hill, the church sits near other major Roman landmarks on the eastern edge of central Rome, within walking distance of the Quirinal Palace and the Trevi area.
