San Francesco di Paola is a Neoclassical basilica on Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples, Italy, built in the early 19th century. It was constructed in the Bourbon period and deliberately echoes the form of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
The church features a broad portico with columns and a central dome that dominate the western side of the piazza, forming a major visual axis with the Royal Palace. Its design and location make it one of Naples’ most recognisable civic religious monuments.
Commissioned after the restoration of Bourbon rule, the building was completed in the 19th century and has since served as a principal church for state and civic ceremonies. The interior follows Neoclassical proportions and contains altars and chapels typical of large urban basilicas.
Sited on Piazza del Plebiscito in central Naples, the basilica is adjacent to the Royal Palace and other central landmarks, and it is easily reached on foot from the city’s main waterfront and historic centre.
