San Esteban Island (Isla San Esteban) is an island in the Gulf of California off the coast of Sonora, Mexico. It is uninhabited by people and is notable for its wildlife, including species that occur only on the island.
The island’s terrain is rocky and arid, and it supports populations of seabirds, reptiles and other desert-adapted fauna. There are no towns or tourist facilities on the island, and visits are generally limited to scientific or carefully organised trips.
San Esteban Island lies in the central Gulf of California within the state of Sonora and is administered by Mexico. Access is by private boat from the Sonoran mainland.
