San Cristóbal de La Laguna

San Cristóbal de La Laguna is the historic capital of the north of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain, founded in 1496 and recognised for its well‑preserved urban plan. Its organised grid of streets and intact civic fabric influenced colonial city planning in the Americas.

The compact historic centre features an orthogonal street grid with plazas, churches, convents and civic buildings that date from the 16th century onwards. Key sights include the principal cathedral church and several convents and civic buildings set around main squares, all accessible on foot.
