How to Get to Samfya
Samfya is accessed mainly by road from Zambia's larger airports and regional bus hubs; there are no frequent scheduled passenger flights into the town itself. Expect long drives over provincial roads from Lusaka, Ndola or Mansa, with buses and private transfers the realistic options.
Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN): The main international gateway for Zambia, in Lusaka. From LUN you can reach Samfya by long-distance coach or private transfer; coaches to Luapula towns depart Lusaka bus terminals - expect a full-day road journey to Samfya (roughly 6-9 hours) depending on connections. Private transfers (or hired 4x4) shorten the trip but are substantially more expensive.
Ndola International Airport (NLA): Ndola is a closer commercial airport on the Copperbelt. From Ndola you can travel south by intercity bus or arranged taxi/transfer toward Samfya and Mansa; road travel typically takes 4-7 hours depending on route and road condition.
Train: There is no regular, reliable passenger rail service directly into Samfya. Zambia’s long-distance passenger rail network is limited and not a practical option for Samfya travel.
Bus / Shared taxi: Intercity buses and shared minibuses (bush taxis) are the main overland option. Buses run from Lusaka, Ndola and Mansa toward Luapula towns; journey times are several hours (4-9 hrs) depending on origin and road condition. Expect basic coach services and local minibuses - buy tickets at the main bus terminals in larger centres.
How to Get Around Samfya #
Samfya is compact and easy to explore on foot around the lakeshore and town centre. For longer trips people use minibuses, private taxis and motorcycle taxis; transport is informal and fares are inexpensive but should be agreed up front. If you plan to visit nearby beaches or fishing areas you’ll likely hire a boat from the lakeside or arrange transport through your lodge. Bring cash - card acceptance is very limited.

Nightlife in Samfya #
Nightlife in Samfya is low-key. Evenings are mostly spent at guesthouses, a handful of lakeside bars or informal gatherings rather than formal clubs or live-music venues. The town livens up during local festivals and fishing events, but otherwise expect quiet nights and early closing times.
Shopping in Samfya #
Shopping is basic: small shops and an open-air market supply food, fishing gear and everyday goods. You’ll find local fish and produce rather than a broad range of tourist crafts. If you need souvenirs or speciality items, ask at lodges or guesthouses - they can often point you to local artisans or arrange purchases.
