Saltholm is a small, low-lying Danish island in the Øresund strait between Copenhagen and Malmö. It covers roughly 16 square kilometres and is sparsely populated and largely reserved for agriculture and wildlife.
The island is notable for flat grasslands, reedbeds and extensive bird colonies rather than built attractions; it is frequently visited by birdwatchers and naturalists. There are simple paths and restricted areas for wildlife protection rather than tourist facilities.
Historically the island has been used for grazing, haymaking and limited agriculture and has long been sparsely inhabited. It has appeared in plans for infrastructure projects at various times but has remained primarily a natural and agricultural landscape.
Saltholm lies in Øresund between the Danish island of Amager and the Swedish coast, roughly 10 to 15 kilometres east of central Copenhagen and a few kilometres west of the Swedish shoreline.

How to Get to Saltholm #
Saltholm is an island in the Øresund between Copenhagen and Malmö with no road or bridge link to the mainland, so it is reached by boat only. From Copenhagen/Kastrup (Copenhagen Airport) you need a private boat, charter or organized excursion to land on Saltholm; there are no regular car ferry services.
