Salón de Embajadores, Alhambra

The Salón de Embajadores is the principal ceremonial chamber within the Comares section of the Alhambra palace complex in Granada, Spain. It dates to the Nasrid period and served as the main throne room for the Muslim rulers of the emirate.

The hall is the largest and most ornate room in the Comares Palace, notable for its richly carved plaster decoration, intricate tilework and an elaborate timber cupola ceiling. Windows and openings give views toward the adjoining Court of the Myrtles and the inner palace courtyards, making the chamber a focal point of the Nasrid palace sequence.

Constructed during the Nasrid dynasty in the 14th century, the Salón de Embajadores functioned as the official audience and reception room for the sultan. Its decorative programme and architectural layout reflect its ceremonial role within the Alhambra’s royal household.

The chamber sits within the Comares Palace of the Alhambra complex on Sabika Hill above the city of Granada in Andalusia. It is accessed through the internal sequence of palaces and courtyards that form the Nasrid royal precinct.
