Cave Underground salt mine converted into unique tourist attraction
An abandoned salt mine in Transylvania, Salina Turda has been repurposed as an underground museum and recreation space with an illuminated lake, Ferris wheel and mining exhibits. Tourists come for the unusual subterranean architecture and guided tours.
Salina Turda is a former salt mine near Turda in Cluj County, Romania, converted into a public show mine and subterranean attraction. It is known for its large underground chambers, walkways and an underground lake with boating.
Visitors explore spacious mined caverns connected by stairs, lifts and walkways with platforms that let you view scale and mining geometry. The central areas include an underground lake where boats operate and public spaces that host a small amusement area and seating. The unusual setting below ground and the opportunity to walk multiple levels of worked salt make it a distinctive visitor experience.
