Salève is a mountain ridge in Haute-Savoie, France, immediately south of the city of Geneva and often regarded as Geneva’s local mountain. Its summit reaches 1,379 metres and it offers extensive views over Geneva, Lake Geneva and the surrounding Alps on clear days.
The mountain is popular for hiking, short walks, rock climbing and paragliding; a cable car operated from the Veyrier side provides quick access to the upper slopes and summit area. Trails of varying difficulty link the summit with lower villages and parking areas.
The Salève has been a recreational area for residents of Geneva and surrounding communities since the 19th century and remains a well-used local outdoor destination. Land access is from the French side, with close road links to Geneva and nearby French towns.
The massif lies in the département of Haute-Savoie in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France, just across the border from Geneva; summit and lower trailheads are reached by short drives from the city.

How to Get to Salève #
Le Salève (the Salève) lies just over the border in France above Geneva. The Téléphérique du Salève departs from Veyrier and is the usual way to reach the main summit area; from Geneva take tpg bus number 8 to Veyrier (Veyrier-Douane) and walk a few minutes to the cable-car station. By car it’s roughly a 10-20 minute drive from central Geneva (depending on border traffic) with parking available near the lower cable-car station or at road-accessible trailheads.

- Take the Téléphérique du Salève from Veyrier to the summit to save time and avoid the steep drive - early morning or late afternoon rides give the clearest views over Geneva and reduce weekend crowds.
