Sairecabur
Mountain Stratovolcano on Bolivia–Chile border, popular for ascents
Sairecabur is a high Andean volcano on the Bolivia-Chile frontier; climbers and acclimatising trekkers visit for high‑altitude ascents and wide salt‑flat and mountain views.
Sairecabur is a volcanic massif on the Andean range near the Bolivia-Chile frontier, part of a small complex of stratovolcanoes in the region. It is characterised by steep volcanic cones and is known to high-altitude mountaineers and volcanologists rather than as a developed tourist site.
The complex was formed by volcanic activity within the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes; its slopes and summits are typical of high Andean volcanic terrain and are climbed by parties prepared for altitude and remoteness.
The volcano lies in the high Andes at the border region between southwestern Bolivia and northern Chile, within a sparsely populated high plateau environment.
- Climbing note: High-elevation climbing requires acclimatisation and local logistical support; the volcano is visited mainly by experienced mountaineers rather than casual hikers.
