How to Get to Ruwa
Ruwa is a short drive southeast of Harare and is reached most conveniently via Harare's international airport or Harare city. Road transfers (taxis, shuttles, kombis) are the standard way in - there is no regular scheduled air service to Ruwa itself.
Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport (HRE): Harare’s airport (HRE) is the main international gateway for central Zimbabwe. Ruwa is about 20-30 km southeast of Harare city; from HRE a taxi or airport shuttle to Ruwa takes roughly 25-40 minutes depending on traffic. Expect airport taxis or private transfers to cost the equivalent of US$15-30.
Other airports: There are no scheduled commercial airports in Ruwa itself; domestic flights within Zimbabwe generally operate into Harare if you are arriving by air from elsewhere in the country or region.
Train: Zimbabwe’s commuter and long-distance rail services are limited and often unreliable; there is no regular passenger rail service specifically serving Ruwa for predictable commuter travel. Rail travel is not the recommended primary option for visitors to Ruwa.
Bus / Kombi (shared minibus): Shared minibuses (kombi) and commuter buses run between Harare and Ruwa along the A3 corridor. Trips from Harare city centre to Ruwa typically take 30-60 minutes depending on stop patterns; fares are modest (often less than US$1-2 for local commuters). Private shuttle or taxi services from the airport or city will be faster but cost more.
How to Get Around Ruwa #
Ruwa is a small commuter town just east of Harare; the centre is walkable for basic errands. Most travel beyond the town is by kombi/minibus taxis and private taxis, with regular minibuses running toward Harare. Fares are low by international standards but can fluctuate with Zimbabwe’s currency situation, so carry local cash or the widely used options and ask drivers for current rates. Night travel is less reliable - plan ahead and avoid isolated late-night trips.
