How to Get to Rustaq
Rustaq is most easily accessed from Muscat by road. There is no passenger rail; intercity buses, taxis and car hire from Muscat are the standard ways to reach Rustaq and move around the region.
Muscat International Airport (MCT): Muscat is the main international arrival point for visitors to Rustaq. There are no regular commercial flights into Rustaq - onward travel is by road from Muscat by bus, taxi or hired car.
Regional airports: There are no regular scheduled flights to Rustaq; Muscat remains the practical entry airport.
Train: Oman does not currently operate intercity passenger rail services.
Bus / Intercity coach (Mwasalat): Mwasalat runs intercity bus services; routes and timetables change so check the operator’s schedule for services between Muscat and Rustaq. Coaches are affordable and air-conditioned but private transfers and taxis are faster for direct travel.
How to Get Around Rustaq #
Rustaq’s historic centre is compact and comfortable to walk, with the fort and older neighbourhoods close by. Taxis and hired cars are the most practical way to visit surrounding attractions; public bus services exist but are less convenient for tourist itineraries.
