How to Get to Rufisque

Rufisque is part of the greater Dakar area and is most commonly reached via Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) or by road from Dakar. Local minibuses, taxis and regional coaches are the usual ways to arrive from the airport or from central Dakar.

By Air

Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS): The new main international airport serving the Dakar metro area, located outside Diass. From DSS you can take a taxi to Rufisque (typically 15,000-25,000 XOF, about 30-45 minutes depending on traffic), book a private transfer (around 25,000-40,000 XOF, 30-40 minutes), or catch shared minibuses / regional coaches toward Dakar and stop in Rufisque (roughly 300-800 XOF, 45-75 minutes).

Léopold Sédar Senghor Airport (DKR): Former international airport in central Dakar that no longer handles scheduled commercial passenger flights. If you arrive here by private aircraft or other means, taxis into Rufisque are short (often under 20,000 XOF) and typically take 20-40 minutes depending on traffic.

By Train & Bus

Train: Rufisque has a historic station on the old Dakar-Niger alignment, but regular long-distance passenger rail services are limited. The newer Train Express Régional (TER) links central Dakar with Diamniadio (and has an airport branch) - check current TER timetables for connections; TER fares in the Dakar area are generally low (hundreds to around 1,000-1,500 XOF) and journey times are typically 20-50 minutes depending on the route.

Bus: Local buses and shared minibuses (commonly called Ndiaga Ndiaye) run frequently between Rufisque and Dakar. Expect fares in the city region of roughly 100-800 XOF for local trips; journeys between Rufisque and central Dakar usually take 20-40 minutes depending on traffic. Intercity coaches for longer distances depart from regional bus stations in Rufisque and Dakar, with prices and times varying by operator and destination.

How to Get Around Rufisque

Getting around Rufisque is straightforward using taxis and the ubiquitous shared minibuses (Ndiaga Ndiaye); these are usually the fastest, cheapest options. Use walking for short local trips, and rely on private transfers or the regional coach/train network for airport runs or longer intercity travel.
