Royal necropolis of Byblos Archaeological Site

The Royal necropolis of Byblos is an archaeological burial complex in the ancient city of Byblos (modern Jbeil), Lebanon, notable for a series of Bronze Age royal tombs uncovered during 20th-century excavations. It is one of the principal burial areas associated with the ancient Phoenician city.

The site comprises several chambered tombs and burial chambers that produced rich funerary assemblages, illustrating the wealth and external connections of Byblos in the Bronze Age. Interpretive signage and nearby museum displays present many of the recovered objects and contextualise the tombs within the wider archaeological sequence of the city.

Excavations in the early to mid 20th century revealed multiple royal tombs and associated grave goods; archaeological work there documented successive phases of occupation and use over the Bronze Age and later periods. The necropolis represents burial practices for elite individuals of ancient Byblos and contributes to the chronology of Levantine Bronze Age cultures.

The necropolis lies within the greater Byblos Archaeological Site and is a short walk from the harbour and the old souk.
