Roxen is a shallow lake in Östergötland County in eastern Sweden, part of the wider Motala ström water system. The lake lies within a lowland landscape and is linked into regional waterways.

The shoreline is used for recreation, birdwatching and boating, with small villages and reed-fringed wetlands along its margins. The lake is integrated into migration routes for waterfowl and is valued locally for fishing and nature activities.

Historically Roxen has been part of the drainage and inland waterway network that connects lakes and rivers across Östergötland; sections of the surrounding lowlands have been managed for agriculture and reed harvesting.

Geographically Roxen sits east of the city of Linköping in central Östergötland, within a low-lying lake district of south-central Sweden.

Lake Roxen sits in Östergötland between Linköping and Norrköping alongside the E4 corridor. By car take the E4 and use local road exits to reach lakeshore access points (Linköping is roughly 10-15 km to the west of parts of the lake).

Regional buses from Linköping and surrounding towns serve villages and access points around Roxen; walking distances vary by chosen access/parking spot.

• Plan a dawn or dusk visit to Lake Roxen during spring and autumn migration if you want the best birdwatching - these periods concentrate waders and waterfowl along the shallows and reedbeds.
• Use official access points and designated observation hides or marked trails along the shoreline to get good views without disturbing nesting or roosting birds; local county nature‑reserve information will show the best hides and seasonal restrictions.
• If you're interested in calmer experiences, avoid holiday weekends when lakeside picnic areas and nearby boat ramps can be busiest and push you away from the quieter birding spots.
