This World Heritage property in Orange, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, comprises a well-preserved Roman theatre and a nearby triumphal arch dating to the early Roman imperial period. Both monuments are outstanding examples of Roman civic architecture in southern Gaul.
The theatre features an unusually complete scaenae frons - the standing stage wall - and a large cavea for spectators, offering a clear sense of Roman theatrical architecture and urban spectacle. The triumphal arch is a prominent freestanding monument located near the historic centre and visible from the main public spaces.
Both monuments were erected during the Roman occupation of the region when the settlement was known as Arausio. They served civic and commemorative functions typical of Roman municipal centres and have survived through successive periods with varying degrees of reuse and conservation.
The site lies in the town of Orange in southeastern France, in the Vaucluse department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The monuments are situated within and adjacent to the historic core of Orange.

Orange sits on the A7 autoroute (Autoroute du Soleil) with an exit for Orange, and is also served by SNCF trains (TER and some TGVs) at Orange station on the Avignon-Montpellier/Marseille corridor. The Roman theatre and triumphal arch are in the town centre about 800-1,000 m from the station - roughly a 10-15 minute walk - and Orange is about a 20-30 minute drive or a short regional train ride from Avignon.
