The bridge comprises 16 visible arches and has been repaired and modified in successive periods, including significant medieval and early modern interventions; at its southern end stands the Calahorra Tower, a later defensive structure. Córdoba’s main railway station (Córdoba Central, Renfe) has regular trains from Seville and Madrid; from the station it’s about a 15-20 minute walk along Avenida del Gran Capitán into the historic quarter.

There are also local buses that stop near the city centre if you prefer not to walk; once in the historic core the bridge is immediately adjacent to the cathedral complex.

• See the Puente Romano at sunrise or in the evening for the best light on the bridge and the Mezquita without the daytime crowds that cluster between the Mosque and the Alcázar.
• Enter the bridge from the Mezquita/Campo Santo side to get the classic view toward the Calahorra Tower and to continue a quieter riverside walk downstream, where many tourists do not go.
