Rocroi is a small fortified town in the Ardennes region of northeastern France, notable for its well-preserved star-shaped ramparts and bastioned fortifications. The town’s distinctive geometric plan is visible from approaches and forms a coherent example of early modern military urbanism.

The ramparts, bastions and narrow internal streets draw visitors interested in military architecture and historic townscapes; the central square and surviving civic buildings form the core of visits. The town’s layout is compact and legible, with fortification walls surrounding the historic centre.

Rocroi’s most famous historical event is the 1643 battle where French forces defeated a Spanish army, an engagement often cited as a milestone in the decline of Spanish military predominance in Europe. The town’s fortifications date from the early modern period and have been maintained as a heritage ensemble.
