How to Get to Rizhao

Rizhao is reachable by its domestic airport, Rizhao Shanzihe Airport (RIZ), and by regular rail services to Rizhao Railway Station and Rizhao West (high‑speed) station. For international arrivals, Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport (TAO) is the nearest major hub with onward connections by coach or high‑speed train.

By Air

Rizhao Shanzihe Airport (RIZ): Rizhao’s local airport handles domestic flights to major Chinese cities. From the airport you can take the airport shuttle/coach to Rizhao city centre (approx. 25-40 CNY, 30-45 min) or a taxi/ride‑hailing service (Didi) to downtown (approx. 70-120 CNY, 30-45 min). Rental cars are also available at the terminal.

Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport (TAO): The larger international gateway for the region; useful if arriving from abroad. From TAO, you can transfer into Qingdao (airport bus or metro) then catch a high‑speed train to Rizhao (total journey ~1.5-2.5 hours depending on connections; combined cost typically 60-150 CNY). Direct airport coaches to Rizhao also run (approx. 30-80 CNY, ~2-2.5 hours) - cheaper but slower than taking the high‑speed rail via Qingdao.

By Train & Bus

Train: Rizhao is served by mainline and high‑speed services. Use Rizhao Railway Station (日照站) for many conventional services and Rizhao West (日照西) for high‑speed (G/D) trains. Typical travel times: Qingdao ↔ Rizhao on high‑speed ~1-1.5 hours (second‑class fares roughly 30-70 CNY); longer conventional trains to regional hubs take several hours with fares varying by seat/class.

Bus: Long‑distance coaches run from Rizhao Long‑Distance Bus Station (日照长途汽车站) to Qingdao, Linyi and other Shandong cities. Intercity buses to Qingdao and nearby cities generally cost 30-80 CNY and take ~2-3 hours depending on traffic. Urban buses inside Rizhao are frequent and very cheap (see city bus section for fares).

How to Get Around Rizhao

Rizhao is easiest to navigate by intercity train for longer trips and by taxi/Didi for airport transfers or short hops; city buses and shared bikes handle local travel cheaply. For most visitors a mix of high‑speed rail (for arrivals/departures) and taxis or bike rides for getting around the waterfront works best.
