Risnjak is a mountain massif and national park area in the Gorski Kotar region of Croatia. The massif includes a prominent summit and protected forested slopes that are important for regional biodiversity.
The area attracts hikers and nature enthusiasts to its marked trails, mountain vistas and mixed beech and fir forests. Wildlife sightings, forest walks and access to alpine ridges are primary reasons for visits; trails lead to viewpoints on the higher slopes.
The area was set aside for protection as part of Croatia’s system of natural reserves to conserve the mountain habitats and native flora and fauna; management has focused on balancing recreation with conservation. Traditional pastoral and forestry uses shaped the cultural landscape prior to formal protection.
