Rikuchu Kaigan National Park is a coastal protected area on the Pacific coast of northeastern Honshu in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, known for a rugged ria coastline and rocky sea stacks.
The park’s coastline features sea cliffs, small bays, rock arches and offshore islets that offer scenic viewpoints and short coastal walks. Boat trips and seaside promenades provide close views of the coastal rock formations and shoreline geometry.
The area was designated and managed by the Japanese national authorities as a protected coastal park to conserve its coastal landforms and marine-adjacent habitats. Over time management has focused on balancing visitor access with protection of shoreline features.
Geographically the park runs along the Sanriku coast of Iwate Prefecture on the eastern side of Honshu, facing the Pacific Ocean and interspersed with small fishing towns and ports.
