Rehman Dheri is an archaeological mound site in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, recognized as one of the earliest urbanized settlements in South Asia dating to the third millennium BCE. Excavations have revealed a planned layout with a raised citadel and adjoining lower settlement areas.
The site was occupied in the pre-Harappan to early Harappan periods and shows evidence of organized town planning, craft production and regional trade connections. Archaeological excavations in the mid-20th century documented its layout and material culture and established its importance for studies of early South Asian urban development.
Rehman Dheri lies near the modern region around Dera Ismail Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. The mound is set on a raised position above surrounding plains and is reached via regional roads from nearby towns.
