Regenstein Castle

Regenstein Castle is a ruined medieval hill castle near Blankenburg in the Harz region of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The site is set on a prominent limestone crag and is known for its rock-cut chambers and defensive positions.

Visitors encounter exposed masonry, cliff-top ruins and a system of carved rooms and passageways hewn into the rock; trails approach the site from Blankenburg and provide viewpoints over the surrounding landscape. The ruins are a focus for short hikes and interpretation of medieval defensive architecture.

The castle dates from the Middle Ages, with documentary references from the medieval period, and it was abandoned and fell into ruin several centuries ago as political control of the region changed.
