A dense collection of stone and marble mausoleums, sculpted tombs, and family vaults lines narrow alleys across the site. Highlights include numerous elaborate 19th- and early 20th-century monuments and the Duarte family vault, where Eva Perón is interred; the site covers several city blocks rather than a single open lawn. Recoleta Cemetery is in the Recoleta neighborhood of central Buenos Aires. The closest Subte (metro) access is Line H at Las Heras station - from Las Heras it is about a 5-10 minute walk south/west to the cemetery entrances along Avenida del Libertador and Junín. Subte Line D (Facultad de Medicina) is also within walking distance (roughly 8-12 minutes). Numerous city buses serve the nearby avenues.
