Raqch'i

Raqch’i is an Inca archaeological complex in the Cusco Department of Peru known for its large temple dedicated to the deity Wiracocha and for extensive surrounding constructions. The ruins combine monumental religious architecture with storage and administrative buildings.

The complex is notable for the massive rectangular adobe temple and adjacent rows of storehouses and foundations that formed part of an organized provincial center. Visitors commonly view the temple remains, storehouse lines and traces of Inca road connections.

Built during the Inca period, the site functioned as a religious, administrative and logistical hub within the Inca state. Archaeological study has identified its role in regional governance and ritual practice during the 15th and early 16th centuries.

Raqch’i lies in the Cusco Department of southern Peru, situated along the highland corridor used historically between Cusco and other Andean regions. It is accessible by road from nearby towns within the department.

What to See #

• Temple of Wiracocha: A large rectangular adobe structure referred to as the Temple of Wiracocha dominates the site and served religious functions within the complex. It is the most visually striking surviving Inca building at Raqch'i.
• Qullqas and administrative compounds: Surrounding the temple are rows of circular and rectangular storehouses, administrative buildings and foundation remains that indicate the site's role as a regional Inca center.
