Rakwa Tso
Lake High-altitude Tibetan lake near Himalayan foothills
Rakwa Tso, also known as Ranwu Lake, is a mountain lake in eastern Tibet (Nyingchi prefecture) noted for its clear water and mountain-fringed shoreline. The lake occupies a scenic valley and is a frequent stop on regional travel routes through the surrounding highland landscape.
The feature comprises two linked basins separated by a short channel or river stretch, creating upper and lower lake sections with contrasting shorelines. Visitors see steep wooded slopes and peaks rising directly from the water’s edge, and small lakeside settlements provide basic services.
The lake is set within a high-altitude, mountainous region of eastern Tibet and is accessed by road from nearby county towns and the main regional highways that serve Nyingchi and adjacent areas.

What to See #
- Upper and lower basins: Two linked lake basins commonly referred to as upper and lower Rakwa Tso that together form the scenic water body visitors see alongside the road.
- Lakeside settlement: A small Tibetan village and guesthouse cluster at the lake shore that functions as the local service point for tourists and travellers on the regional route.
