Quirinal Hill

Quirinal Hill is one of the seven traditional hills of Rome and a central historic district in the city, crowned by the Quirinal Palace, the official residence of the President of Italy. The hill has been an elite residential and governmental area from antiquity to the present.

The area features monumental palaces, representative squares and several churches; its vantage points provide views across central Rome towards the Vatican and the Tiber. The hill’s architecture spans Roman, Renaissance and Baroque periods, reflecting its long administrative and ceremonial role.

Settlement and notable construction on the Quirinal date back to ancient and medieval times, with the site later becoming a papal and royal residence before its 20th-century role as the presidential palace. The hill’s buildings have been adapted over centuries to accommodate changing political functions.

Located in the historic centre of Rome, the Quirinal sits between the Via Nazionale and the modern city core, within easy walking distance of the Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain and other central landmarks.
