How to Get to Puerto Ayora
Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island is reached by flights into Baltra (GPS) or San Cristóbal followed by short boat transfers. Once on the islands, travel relies on short ferries, local buses/shuttles and taxis rather than rail.
Seymour / Baltra Airport (GPS): Baltra is the main airport for Santa Cruz Island and Puerto Ayora. International visitors fly via Quito (UIO) or Guayaquil (GYE) onto domestic flights to Baltra; flights from Guayaquil or Quito to Baltra typically take about 1.5 hours (flight prices vary widely-expect domestic fares roughly US$150-$400 depending on season). From Baltra you transfer by bus to the Itabaca Channel ferry.
San Cristóbal Airport (SCY): If you arrive on San Cristóbal, you can transfer inter-island by scheduled small-boat services or fly into Baltra and travel across; arriving directly to Santa Cruz via San Cristóbal is less common for visitors to Puerto Ayora but remains an option for island‑hopping.
Train: There is no rail service in the Galápagos.
