Pszczyna Castle

Puebla Cathedral (Catedral Basílica de Puebla) is the principal Roman Catholic cathedral in the city of Puebla and the seat of the Archdiocese of Puebla, built in the colonial period beginning in the late 16th century.

The cathedral occupies a prominent position on Puebla’s main square (Zócalo) and contains a large nave with multiple side chapels and richly decorated altars reflecting Renaissance and Baroque influences. The building was constructed in stages from 1575 and major works were completed during the 17th century.

It has served continuously as the diocesan cathedral since the colonial era and remains an active place of worship and a major landmark within Puebla’s historic centre.

The cathedral stands on the Zócalo in Puebla’s historic core, approximately 130 km southeast of Mexico City.

• Construction period: Construction began in the late 16th century and the building reached its present historic appearance after successive Baroque and 19th-century remodellings.
• Gardens and park: The palace complex includes parkland and formal gardens that are part of the ensemble visitors walk through when accessing the museum rooms.
