How to Get to Progreso, Yucatán

Progreso is a short coastal hop from Mérida and most travelers arrive via Mérida International Airport (MID) then continue by bus or taxi. Regular buses from Mérida are cheap and reliable, making public transport the simplest way to reach the malecon and port area.

By Air

Mérida International Airport (MID): The closest major airport to Progreso is Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport in Mérida. From MID you can take an ADO bus or taxi to Mérida city center and then an onward bus to Progreso; airport-to-Progreso door-to-door transfers take roughly 30-50 minutes and taxis typically cost MXN 300-600.

Campeche / Cancun (alternative gateways): Cancun (CUN) and Campeche (CPE) are much farther and not practical for direct access to Progreso; most visitors use Mérida as the hub.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no passenger rail service to Progreso; the Yucatán peninsula’s rail network is limited and primarily freight/tourist operations.

Bus: ADO and other local bus services run frequent routes from Mérida’s central bus terminal to Progreso. Fares are inexpensive (around MXN 30-70) and the journey takes about 30-45 minutes depending on the service and stops.

How to Get Around Progreso, Yucatán #

Progreso is very walkable along the malecón and beachfront; many visitors stroll between the pier, restaurants and shops. Taxis and tricycle taxis operate locally and there are frequent colectivos and ADO buses connecting Progreso with Mérida. Colectivos and buses are inexpensive (generally a few dozen pesos); bicycles or rented scooters are popular for short sightseeing trips along the coast.
