Preobrazheniya Island is an island in the Arctic region of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Russia, situated in the Arctic seas north of the Siberian coast.
The island forms part of the high-latitude maritime landscape of the Russian Arctic and is uninhabited or sparsely used for seasonal or scientific visits.
It has been charted as part of the coastal island groups off Yakutia and is subject to Arctic climatic conditions, sea ice and permafrost-influenced shorelines.
The island lies in the Arctic waters north of the Sakha (Yakutia) mainland in the Russian Federation.
How to Get to Preobrazheniya Island #
There are no scheduled services. Access requires an Arctic-capable vessel from ports in northern Sakha (Yakutsk via river transfer to seagoing shipyards) or organized polar cruises that include Laptev Sea routes. Landing is weather-dependent and usually possible only in the brief Arctic summer.

- There are no regular transport or visitor facilities - plan multi-day passage on an ice-capable research vessel and bring emergency communications.
- Summer months (July-August) have the brief weather window for shoreings in the Laptev Sea; be prepared for fog and pack polar-grade gear.
- Photographers should bring a telephoto: seabirds and seals often shelter along the rocky shores and are easiest to photograph from a boat.
