A coastal village and beach destination on the north coast of the Brazilian state of Bahia known as Praia do Forte. It is notable for sandy beaches, near-shore reefs and a well-established sea-turtle conservation and visitor program.

The settlement grew in the late 20th century as tourism expanded along the Bahian coast; the area has older historical ties through the nearby Castelo Garcia D’Ávila, a colonial-era fortification and estate whose ruins are preserved nearby. Conservation programs for marine turtles have been active for several decades.

Situated on Bahia’s north coast in the municipality of Mata de São João, along the Atlantic seaboard north of the city of Salvador and serving as a seaside destination within driving distance of the state capital.

• Wildlife and tidal pools: Sea-turtle nesting season and the TAMAR centre visits are the main wildlife attractions; guided visits and observation at low tide reveal natural tidal pools and coral reefs close to shore.

• TAMAR sea turtle project: A visitor centre run by the national Projeto TAMAR displays live sea turtles and educational exhibits about marine conservation and turtle nesting.
• Castelo Garcia D’Ávila ruins: The ruins and grounds of the nearby 16th-century Castelo Garcia D’Ávila are accessible from the village and offer historical context beyond the beach environment.

By car from Salvador: approximately 1.5 hours north along BA‑099 (Estrada do Coco) and local roads; regular bus services and private shuttles connect Salvador airport to Praia do Forte.
