Port Lockroy

Port Lockroy is a natural harbour and former British research station on Goudier Island in the Palmer Archipelago off the Antarctic Peninsula, now notable as a restored historic site and seasonal visitor centre. The site is operated as a museum and post office by a UK heritage organisation during the summer season.

The main building (Base A) operates as a museum, gift shop and seasonal post office where visitors can send postcards from Antarctica; Goudier Island also hosts a nearby gentoo penguin colony that is commonly seen from landing beaches and viewing points. Small expedition cruise ships regularly include port calls to allow supervised shore visits in the austral summer.

Established as a British station during World War II operations in 1944, the site served scientific and military purposes before being closed and later conserved. It was restored in the 1990s and is now managed for both heritage interpretation and limited tourist visits.

Located on Goudier Island in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, Port Lockroy is reached by small ship landings from cruise vessels operating in the region during the summer season.
