The Pontiac Silverdome was a domed stadium in Pontiac, Michigan, that opened in 1975 and served as a large multiuse venue in suburban Detroit. It was best known as the home of the NFL’s Detroit Lions from 1975 through 2001.
The Silverdome hosted professional football, major concerts, and other large events, and it was one of the largest stadiums of its kind in the United States while in operation. By the early 21st century the facility fell into disuse and maintenance issues led to its demolition.
After decades of use and changing ownership, the stadium was cleared and demolished in 2017. The site lies in the city of Pontiac, approximately 30 kilometres north of downtown Detroit in southeast Michigan.
