Poblet Monastery is a large Cistercian abbey complex in Catalonia, Spain, founded in 1151 and noted for its medieval monastic architecture and royal pantheon. It is one of the most complete and important Cistercian sites in Europe.

Visitors can see the Romanesque and Gothic church, cloister, chapter house and the royal pantheon where members of the Aragonese royal family are buried. The ensemble retains extensive monastic buildings arranged around a central precinct and provides insight into Cistercian monastic life.

The monastery was established in the mid-12th century and became a royal burial site and major Cistercian house in medieval Iberia. It has undergone phases of enlargement, decline and restoration and continues to function with a resident monastic community.

Poblet sits near the village of Vimbodí i Poblet in Catalonia, inland from Tarragona and reachable by road from the regional towns of Lleida and Tarragona.

The Monastery of Poblet sits in the village of Vimbodí i Poblet (Conca de Barberà). By car it is easiest to follow the main east-west motorways from Barcelona/Lleida toward Tarragona and then take the local roads inland to Vimbodí i Poblet; expect roughly a 1.5‑hour drive from Barcelona and about 40-50 minutes from Tarragona depending on traffic. There is on‑site parking at the monastery; visitors arriving by public transport can reach the area from nearby towns (for example Montblanc) by local bus or taxi - final access from the nearest town is a short drive and a brief walk into the monastery grounds.

• Visit early morning (opening time) on a weekday to see the cloister and royal pantheon with far fewer coach groups and to catch softer light for photography.
• Use the visitor centre/car park entrance at the complex (the designated access for tourists) rather than trying to enter through monastic areas used for worship.
• Buy a timed guided-visit or reserve a slot in advance when possible-guided tours are limited and explain the Cistercian spaces most visitors otherwise skim over.
• Allow time to walk the marked trails in the surrounding Poblet Natural Park; many visitors only see the monastery buildings and miss the broader landscape setting.
