About Po Nagar
Po Nagar is a Cham temple complex in Nha Trang, Khanh Hòa province, consisting of brick towers and sanctuary buildings dating from between the 7th and 12th centuries. It served as a religious centre for the Champa kingdom and remains a preserved example of Cham religious architecture.
The site comprises several brick towers and shrines arranged on a small hill, with carved lintels and reliefs typical of Cham art. The elevated position provides views over Nha Trang and access is via paved paths up the hill to the main sanctuary area.
Constructed by the Cham people between the 7th and 12th centuries, the complex was dedicated to the goddess known locally as Po Nagar. Over centuries it has been repaired and adapted, and it remains an active religious site used for offerings and ceremonies by local worshippers.
Po Nagar stands on a hill in the northern part of Nha Trang city, Khanh Hòa province, near the Cai River estuary and a short distance north of the city centre and Nha Trang Bay.

How to Get to Po Nagar
Po Nagar (the Cham towers) is in the north part of Nha Trang city and is easily reached from the city center. From the Nha Trang beachfront area it’s roughly a 10-20 minute walk (about 1-2 km) north, or a short taxi/motorbike ride from the main Nha Trang bus or train station. Local taxis and xe ôm (motorbike taxis) are the most convenient way to reach the site from around the city.
Tips for Visiting Po Nagar
- Visit at opening time or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat and to observe local worshippers during regular prayer/offerings; morning and late-afternoon rituals are common and add cultural context.
- Dress modestly and be prepared to remove shoes before entering inner shrine areas; the site is an active place of worship and respectful behavior is expected inside and around the towers.
- Don't skip the small on-site museum and the viewpoint on the temple hill - they explain Cham history and give panoramic views over Nha Trang and the nearby river that many hurried visitors miss.
