Plaošnik is an archaeological and religious complex in Ohrid associated with early medieval Christian and Slavic literacy activity, with origins dating back to the 9th century.
The site includes archaeological remains of early Christian basilicas and a reconstructed church building standing on medieval foundations. Interpretive displays and exposed ruins document the monastery complex and its role in the region’s medieval religious life.
The location is historically connected with Saint Clement of Ohrid and a monastic and educational foundation established in the late 9th century; the complex underwent medieval development and modern archaeological work and reconstruction in recent decades.
Plaošnik lies on the lakeshore within the city of Ohrid on Lake Ohrid, adjacent to the old town and other waterfront heritage sites.
