Place du Châtelet is an open square on the right bank of the Seine in central Paris that faces the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Théâtre de la Ville. The square is defined by its two theatre façades and a central fountain - the Fontaine du Palmier - which commemorates Napoleonic victories.

The site functions as a transport hub with nearby metro and RER connections and serves as a gateway between the Île de la Cité and the northern Right Bank. Theatres, cultural venues and riverside promenades make the square a frequent meeting point for visitors and locals alike.

The square occupies a central position close to the Seine and the Pont au Change, and it sits within the dense urban fabric of central Paris.

• Transport and theatres: The square fronts two major Paris theatres and is well served by several Metro lines, making it a frequent arrival and transfer point for cultural visits.

Place du Châtelet sits beside the Seine and the Théâtre du Châtelet and is served directly by Châtelet metro station (metro lines 1, 4, 7, 11 and 14). The large Châtelet-Les Halles complex also provides RER A, B and D connections; the square is effectively directly outside the station exits.

From any of the listed metro/RER lines you can exit and be at the square within a minute or two.

• Use the Châtelet-Les Halles transport interchange for the most direct access; the piazza sits right beside the Seine and the theatre entrances so the station exit is convenient.
• Head onto the adjacent Pont au Change or the nearby riverbank at sunset for one of the best perspectives of the square against the lit bridges and Île de la Cité-many visitors only view the piazza from street level.
• Include a short walk to the Théâtre du Châtelet and Théâtre de la Ville entrances to appreciate the area's theatrical history and façades; those details are often overlooked by visitors focused on the river.
