Pirotan Island

Pirotan is a small island in the Gulf of Kutch, off the coast of Gujarat, India, located within the region’s Marine National Park. It is known for its marine habitats and is visited for wildlife, snorkelling, and birdwatching.

The island’s main attractions are its fringing reefs, intertidal pools and resident seabirds; shallow coral and rocky areas are exposed at low tide and support diverse marine life. A small lighthouse and basic landing areas mark the island; visitors typically arrive on day trips by boat from mainland Gujarat.

Pirotan and surrounding islets have been managed as part of the Gulf of Kutch Marine National Park and Sanctuary to protect coral, mangrove and reef habitats. Human use has been primarily limited to fishing, occasional navigation and controlled ecotourism.

Pirotan sits in the inner Gulf of Kutch off Gujarat’s coast in western India, within the Marine National Park and Sanctuary. Access is by boat from coastal towns on the Kutch mainland.

Boats are weather-dependent; the island is usually closed or difficult to reach during the monsoon months (June-September).
