Pioneer Square station (Sound Transit)

Pioneer Square station is an underground Sound Transit Link light rail station in Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood, serving downtown passengers and connecting to nearby transit hubs. The station opened with the initial Central Link service in 2009.

Passengers use the station primarily to access the historic Pioneer Square district, the waterfront and nearby sports venues; the station lies at street level under 3rd Avenue with stair, escalator and elevator access. The facility includes public art and signage that reference the local history of the Pioneer Square area.

Constructed as part of Seattle’s light rail expansion, the station occupies a portion of the downtown transit tunnel infrastructure and has served light rail since 2009. Over time it has functioned as a multimodal urban transit node connecting local buses, regional rail walks and pedestrian access.

The station sits in the Pioneer Square neighborhood of downtown Seattle, a short walk from the waterfront and a few blocks from King Street Station and the major downtown thoroughfares.

• Platform level: An island platform serving two tracks on the Link light rail; used by Sound Transit's Link trains and accessed from the mezzanine level below street level.
• Mezzanine: A mezzanine with fare gates and ticketing machines that links surface entrances to the platform; contains public art and signage for neighborhood connections.
• Entrances and access: Street-level stair, escalator and elevator entrances on 3rd Avenue and adjacent sidewalks that connect the station to Pioneer Square, the waterfront, and nearby bus stops.
